In 2002, Adam Chesney founded Monarch Landscape Company with a commitment to provide his clients with services which rate a cut above their expectations. “Our core philosophy is based on a deep respect and appreciation for our clients’ landscaping needs and desires,” says Chesney. “We do this by establishing a customer centered plan, then applying the skills and experience of the Monarch staff to create a masterpiece that can be maintained or one that may evolve in a dynamic expression of the client’s creativity.”
To achieve such high level of customer satisfaction, Monarch Landscape Company is staffed with employees in leadership positions who are educated with degrees in horticulture and/or employees who have the experience of owning successful private landscaping companies.
Chesney credits the growth of the company to his dedicated staff who seek out continuing education opportunities in order to stay current in an industry that is always moving forward. “It takes a staff of this quality to understand the importance of developing the strong customer relationships which underscore our commitment and then follow through with excellence in our products and services. It is our great staff that enables us to handle the challenges that arise daily ”
“I began mowing lawns for neighbors and friends of the family as soon as my dad would let me push a mower. He drove me from house to house, until I could drive myself. I loved it!” That was the first of Chesney’s business ventures which lasted through high school. Then, he was off to Berry College for the next five years, an institution known, and selected by Chesney, for their extensive horticulture programs. There he made the natural move into working with grounds crews on the college campus, at the Oak Hill Gardens and Museum, and at the same time served in the Army Reserve. After graduation, Chesney accepted a position in Atlanta with a large landscaping company. “For three years I watched and learned all I could about everything, from daily operations to running the business.” However, it was another three years in Nashville, before the opportunity for Monarch Landscape Company arose in 2002. “It was perfect timing. That’s how the company got its name. It opened the door for a long awaited move.”
Lee graduated from the University of Tennessee with a degree in Ornamental Horticulture and Landscape Design in 1996 and accepted a position in Atlanta with the same company as Adam where they met and married two years later. In 2004, with the growth of Adam’s business, Lee joined Monarch Landscape Company to assist with the administrative responsibilities. Adam refers to her as their “Human Resources Director, Chief Financial Officer, Administrative Assistant, and the overall reason we stay in business!” Lee now has her own personal assistant, Sadie Chesney, born on August 19, 2008, who already has an opinion to express about matters.

Raised on a dairy farm in upstate New York (next exit Canada), Sonny moved to South Carolina in 1999 and started working in the golf course industry. In 2000 Clark decided to go out on his own and soon had developed a thriving landscaping business that focused on residential design, installation, and irrigation. In 2006, Clark made the decision to move closer to family, sold the business to a partner, and joined Monarch Landscape Company. Sonny’s certification from the Interlocking Concrete and Pavement Institute (ICPI) allows Monarch Landscape Company to install patios, and retaining walls with expertise and a 5 year guarantee. He also manages the installation and maintenance crews, designs irrigation systems, and pursues new business. Adam says of Clark, “We can offer our clients a high level of customer service and up to date information because of the experience and work ethic Sonny brings to our company.”
A graduate of U.T. Martin in Soil Science, Jason has owned two local businesses. His eight years as owner of My Garden Guy Landscape Services as well as his experience as owner of Eden, a garden shop in the Berryhill Shopping District of Nashville, have proven and expanded Jason’s skills in analyzing the needs of clients and developing an individualized plan. In October of 2008, Jason brought his long-time employee Jeremy Amos and extensive horticultural knowledge to Monarch Landscape Company. In his leadership role over maintenance accounts, Jason demonstrates enthusiasm not only for maintaining properties, but also for improving them.
Aaron brings to Monarch Landscape Company a background of experience growing up in his father’s Nolensville Ace Hardware Shop. Landscaping seemed a natural move as he began working in the field at the early age of fourteen. Through hands on experience, Aaron discovered a gift for landscaping and has developed his knowledge of irrigation systems, landscape lighting, water feature installation, equipment operation and plant identification. Though Gunter joined Monarch Landscape Company in 2007 as Installation Foreman, he is also the shop manager, and teaches Spanish and English to Monarch Landscape Company employees.
With the addition of Jason White in October of 2008, Monarch Landscape Company received the dual benefit of Jeremy Amos, a valuable employee of White’s at My Garden Guy Landscape Services for eight years. Keeping the coworkers together has worked well. With his former assignment to “do it all,” Jeremy has established a broad knowledge of the industry which allows him to perform many different tasks to better meet the landscaping needs of MLC clients. Jeremy brings a strong background for his maintenance and installation responsibilities.
